Waterfalls

Palaruvi

It is located about 75 km from Kollam town. It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Kerala, falling from a height of some 300 feet. It is a favourite tourist spot of South India. Palaruvi is inside thick forests on the high ranges off Thenmala in Kollam district. The waterfall can be reached by walking tropical forestland. The name Palaruvi means - stream of milk. This fall is into a shallow pool and is ideal for swimming. The surrounding mist-clad blue hills and green valleys form a stunning backdrop to the milk white burst of foam that resounds through the otherwise tranquil virgin forest.

Athirappilly & Vazhachal

It is located 60 km from Thrissur city and 70 km from Kochi city. Athirappilly waterfall is a major tourist attraction in Kerala. Another popular waterfall and picnic spot nearby is the Vazhachal Falls. The waterfalls are part of Chalakudy River. Athirappilly waterfall is approximately 80 feet in height. These waterfalls are quite popular with film directors because of its eye-catching scenery. A couple of scenes of the film "Raavan" were shot here. Mani Ratnam's "Dil Se" song "Jiya Jale" and "Guru" song "Barso re" were also shot at the Athirappilly waterfalls.

Attukad

It is a scenic waterfall amidst hills and jungles and is just 9 km away from Munnar. It is ideally placed between Munnar and Pallivasal. The beautiful Attukal waterfall offers a lovely respite for the weary traveler. This place is an ideal choice for long trekking trips also.

Thommankuthu

Thommankuthu is a small and beautifully wild waterfall. It is a spectacular wonder of nature situated 74 km from Cochin. The seven-step fall drops down a rock from a height of 1,500 metres and is a popular picnic spot. At each step, there is a cascade with a pool below it.

Thusharagiri

It is located in Kozhikode district of Kerala. Two streams originating from the Western Ghats meet here to form the Chalippuzha River. The river swerves into three waterfalls creating a snowy mist which gives the name, 'Thusharagiri'. The word Thusharagiri means the snow capped mountain. The best roar of the waterfalls can be enjoyed from September to November. The highest waterfall is the Thenpara waterfall that falls from an altitude of 75 metres. Thusharagiri offers endless opportunities for trekking, rock climbing and wild life tours.

Meenmutty

It is a three-tiered waterfall with a height of 300 metres. It takes a 2 km trek through the jungle from the main Ooty Road to reach the falls. Meenmutty Falls is the largest and most spectacular waterfall in the Wayanad District and is Kerala's second largest waterfall. It is probably the most unspoiled waterfalls in its true natural setting. The waterfall is truly a trekker's paradise.

Soochipara

Also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls is a spectacular three tiered waterfalls in Vellarimala The three-tiered waterfalls in located in Soochipara, Wayanad District cascade down from a height of 100 to 300 feet, offering a breathtaking sight. Locally referred to as Soochipara (meaning "Needle-like Rock), the 15-20 minute drive from Meppadi to Sentinel Rock Waterfalls offers scenic views of some of the best tea estates in Wayanad. Here one can enjoy water rafting, swimming and bathing in the pool below. A highlight is the tree-top huts from which one can have a spectacular view of the valleys of the Western Ghats and the glimmering shallow waters of the surrounding springs. The place is surrounded by dense equatorial forest vegetation. It is an ideal location for rock climbing.
